DRIVERS HOURS RULES AS OF JANUARY 1st 2008

A. FIXED WEEK

00:00 hrs Monday to 24:00 hrs Sunday

B. WEEKLY DRIVING

56 hours (6 daily driving periods)

C. DAILY DRIVING

9 hours (10 hours twice a week)

D. FORTNIGHTLY DRIVING

90 hours in any two week period

E. ACCUMULATED or CONTINUOUS DRIVING

4 ½ hours

F. BREAKS FROM DRIVING

45 minutes or two breaks, the first being at least 15 minutes long the second at least 30 minutes.

G. DAILY REST

11 hours

H. REDUCED DAILY REST

9 hours three times between weekly rests.

I. SPLIT DAILY REST

12 hours split into two periods of which one period must be 3 hours and the last period must be 9 hours.

J. WEEKLY REST

45 hours taken once in each two week Period.

K. REDUCED WEEKLY REST

Reduced to a minimum of 24 hours but must be compensated for by the end of the 3rd week. Two reduced weekly rests cannot be taken in consecutive weeks.

L. FERRY CROSSINGS

11 hours daily rest can be interrupted not more than twice by activities not exceeding one hour.

M. REQUIRED TO PRODUCE

Tachograph charts/printouts/driver card from 1 January 2008 produce the current day and the previous 28 calendar days.

N. EMERGENCY RULE

In order to reach a suitable stopping place a driver may depart from these rules but must make a manual record on chart or printout at the time the stopping point is reached.
